Counseling for Adults

Individual Therapy
Treatment is tailored to the needs of the individual and will be guided by an individualized treatment plan based on the needs of the client, developed by the therapist and client. Counseling occurs 1:1 between the client and therapist. Interventions utilized during individual therapy include: Traditional talk therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Art Therapy, and other techniques deemed appropriate.

Family Therapy
Family therapy can be useful when patterns and issues of an individual are affecting the family system. A family systems approach can help strengthen and reinforce newly learned/enhanced coping skills.

DWI/DUI Education & Treatment (MD State Certified Programs)
It is important to act quickly if you have received a DWI/DUI. Whether you are hoping for Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) or attempting to avoid incarceration, enrolling in a Maryland State Certified DWI/DUI Education or Treatment Program is an essential step. By participating in one of these programs, you will demonstrate that you are proactively taking responsibility for your actions and have learned from your behavior.

All individuals referred for services will meet with one of Harford Counseling's licensed professionals who will complete a comprehensive evaluation in order to identify the presenting problem(s). Based on the evaluation, treatment recommendations are made for the most appropriate level of care to deal with the client’s situation.

Depending on the severity of issues, a number of treatment programs are available:

  • A 12-week alcohol and drug education group (for those assessed as "social drinkers.")
  • A 26-week alcohol and drug treatment group (for those assessed as substance abusers/chemically dependent or are repeat offenders, within a 10-year period per Maryland State requirements.)
  • Clients can also work individually with a licensed therapist to address substance abuse, addiction, or any other mental health disorder, if not comfortable in a group setting.

These groups meet once weekly during day and evening hours, Monday through Friday.

Court/Legal Involvement
Harford Counseling is committed to advocating for its clients and working with clients' attorneys, probation officers, and the Court in providing necessary documentation, as needed.

All Clients are treated in a confidential, professional manner with the utmost respect.
