OUR PROGRAMMING
A Place to Learn, A Place to Heal, A Place to Grow

My Big Backyard, LLC is breaking ground. We have established two locations with 15 acres each in the Queenstown, Maryland area. One location in the Hickory Ridge Community of Queenstown and the second at 111 Hobson Nursery Lane.

Our first program will begin this spring.

Program #1 – A partnership is in progress to provide a gardening experience to At-risk
Youth from the Glen Burnie, Maryland area.

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Weekdays Location: Both sites in Queenstown

After the cultural shift to the country, the Introduction to Rural Life and Animal Husbandry, we begin with Exploring Bee Keeping and the Importance they have to keeping Nature in Balance.

Pre- Spring Planting

1. Introduction to a rural landscape
2. Introduction to animal husbandry
3. Introduction to bee keeping
4. Introduction to garden planning  
5. Selection of crops and cut flowers

Early Spring

6. Vegetable and flower garden preparations
7. Sowing seeds and planting of the early season crops
8. Sowing the seeds for the cut flower garden

Summer Time

9. Introduction to pond ecology
10. Introduction to the benefits of organic gardening and environmental stewardship practices
11. From garden to table
12. Creating the menu for the fall festival

Fall

13. Introduction to canning and preserving


Program #2 – Fall Harvest Festival – Queenstown at the Surry Lane Property.

We are seeking additional locations to provide programs which adapt to your population:

  • Local farmland
  • Vocational training centers

  • Centers for health care
  • Correctional institutions
