The highly trained physical therapists at SSRC utilize a wide variety of manual therapy techniques to improve muscle and joint mobility. By using techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue mobilization, your therapist will restore range of motion by stretching your joints and decreasing muscle spasm. Your return to function is our highest priority, so each technique will be applied with your individualized goals in mind. Through neuromuscular re-education techniques and exercise, your therapist will help retrain your muscles to promote proper posture and body mechanics that you will use throughout all of your activities of daily living. Our philosophy is that both type of approaches are important in developing a comprehensive physical therapy program.

Fall is here, so here come the leaves. Remember that raking leaves can be a strenuous activity. The repedative raking motion can irritate the muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff and neck. First take a few minutes to stretch out the neck muscles by leaning your head to the side by bringing your right ear towards your right shoulder, feeling a gentle stretch on the left side of your neck (you should not feel pincing on the right side of your neck). Hold 15 seconds then repeat on the left, but stop if it hurts. Second warm up your shoulders by doing a few shoulder circles. Also, stretch the back of your shoulders by pulling your right arm across your body by using the left hand on your right elbow, pulling your right elbow toward the left shoulder. Hold 30 seconds and repeat on the left shoulder. Finally, be sure to keep your abdominal muscles tight as you bend, or hinge, at your hips and knees when lifting and carrying those heavy bags. Happy Raking.
